Giving Back on Kids Day By Eve Paz, intern
“It was awesome to see how the local community was so supportive in donating to our children. It is what we call the true meaning of aloha.” Each May, our residents, staff, and interns spend a morning selling Kids Day newspapers to benefit the children of Hawaii. The special edition of the Honolulu Advertiser sold on Kids Day features essays, poems and drawings by Oahu students. Proceeds of this island-wide fundraiser go to Parents and Chidren Together (PACT), supporting programs for early childhood education, child abuse and domestic violence protection and prevention, and children's mental health.
In 2008, our staff and residents sold 11 bundles of newspapers, earning $300 to benefit PACT. We are committed to continuing to support this important cause. As one resident shared, “Everyone here is so thankful and would do this every year, anytime. This day has been so rewarding for our souls.”
